Beautifully restored 14th century château-hotel in the French Alps
Perched on the hillside overlooking the capital of Savoie and yet seemingly a world away from the bustle of city life, Le Château de Candie’s ivy-cloaked façade and 14th century fortifications are an enchanting sight to behold. Surrounded by evergreen forest, beautiful gardens, fountains, and rows of grape vines, it commands magnificent views of the Chartreuse mountain range. It’s also conveniently positioned close to many of the major alpine resorts and the largest natural lake in France, making it ideal for a short stop en-route or a longer stay exploring the local area.
The château offers a choice of 25 lovely, individually decorated rooms and suites filled with antiques and period features. For a romantic getaway or just a little extra treat, the château’s impossibly quaint tower contains a truly luxurious suite spread across three floors.
Dining at the hotel’s own restaurant proves to be an unforgettable experience, with an ever-changing menu of exceptional quality dishes created using locally sourced ingredients. You can even sample the Viognier wine made from grapes picked from the château’s own vineyard, at a fascinating wine tasting workshop.
Tucked away in the sun-soaked gardens amidst statues and flowers you’ll find the glistening swimming pool, the perfect place to cool off after a long day of hiking, cycling or sightseeing. For the ultimate evening relaxation, indulge in a restorative massage from one of our therapists or simply curl up in the cosy bar area with a digestif.
Dining
A stay at the château is not complete without a visit to La Cantine, the hotel’s authentic restaurant with a terrace offering fabulous views of the wooded gardens and fountain. Elegant and warm, the inside space invites guests to sink into one of its velvet armchairs and enjoy a long, lazy lunch or gourmet dinner with family and friends. Chef Badara Gueye fuses classic French cuisine with flavours and spices from his home country of Senegal, showcasing fresh, seasonal ingredients and promising an inventive culinary journey for diners. Badara is also a talented painter, and you’ll find his stunning artwork on display throughout the restaurant and hotel.
After a day of exploring the mountains or relaxing at the lake, there’s no better place to retreat to for a sunset apéritif than the château’s new champagne bar, with its own terrace overlooking the château’s gardens. You can also enjoy a chilled glass of Viognier wine made from grapes grown in the château’s own vineyard, either at the bar, in La Cantine, or stretched out on a picnic blanket with uninterrupted views of the valley.
